​        The Shire Homestead of Maine is a small diverse family farm and homestead located in Freeport. We are a fifth generation homesteading family, with three generations currently living on our farmstead!  We are a non GMO, organic practice, shallow till,  permaculture focused and intensively grown!  
​ Our chickens, ducks and geese are pastured. We raise goats,  Heritage hogs (focusing on Idaho Pasture and Kunekune crossed with American Guinea Hog )  outdoors in the sunshine, on grass or in the woods. We occasionally raise Katahdin sheep for meat. Many of our  herbs and mushrooms are wild harvested. We make  soaps and lotions from what we grow and gather.   We are a very small business focused on serving our friends, neighbors and community. 
    It is a matter of faith for us to be good stewards to the land and animals in our care. We are to care for and protect the earth and it's inhabitants. After all, it is in nature we that we have our food and our medicine!
