The Shire Homestead is a small diverse family farm located in Freeport, Maine. We are a non GMO, organic practice, no till permaculture focused and intensively grown working farmstead.
Our chickens, ducks and geese are pastured. We raise heritage pigs, Katahdin sheep and rabbits for meat. Many of our vegetables, herbs and mushrooms are wild harvested. We make tinctures, soaps, lotions, and teas from what we grow and gather. As an herbalist, Marcina considers herself a researcher, guide and teacher. If you have questions regarding how herbs might support your body or specific ways that herbs might improve your health, she offers consultations and classes.
On this website is our online "Store" which you can access by pointing and clicking on the tab above. We also have an onsite farm store! Our farm store is opening in April for the 2021 season. Hours will be Thursday: 1 pm to 7pm, Friday: 9 am to 3 pm, and Saturday: 11 am to 5 pm. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, we are limited to one customer inside (or a family) at a time. We also deliver locally, and can arrange curb side contactless pickup! We are a very small business focused on serving our friends and neighbors.
It is a matter of faith for us to be good stewards to the land and animals in our care. We are to care for and protect the earth and it's inhabitants. After all, it is in nature we that we have our food and our medicine!
